Description of Vacancy:
Dorset Blind Association works across Dorset providing practical help and emotional support to enable people suffering serious sight loss to stay healthy and happy. We rely heavily on community support for the funding we need and we are looking to recruit a dedicated, motivated and energetic individual to manage and deliver and further develop our community fundraising activities.
The role also includes supporting our Events fundraiser and working together with that person to both nurture existing corporate relationships and develop further.
Our small fundraising team is given trust and a significant degree of autonomy to create and drive forward their work agenda. As well as supporting each other, the team are actively supported by the charity’s CEO, Trustees and other key volunteers and are enjoying growing success, built on a strong teamwork ethos and sense of shared purpose.

Key duties include
• To take over the management of existing community fundraising activities and work to maximise the effectiveness and income generation from these
• Research, develop and organise new community fundraising activities
• Support the Events fundraiser on all events fundraising activities
• Work with the Events fundraiser to nurture corporate support for all Dorset Blind Association fundraising
• Recruit, motivate and support individuals and groups to take part in community fundraising activities
• Recruit, motivate and support volunteers to assist with fundraising activities
• Raising the profile of the Dorset Blind Association generally and acting as its representative within the community
• Produce good quality promotional materials and ensure all activities are appropriately and extensively marketed and all PR opportunities are maximised
• Involvement with general PR work for Dorset Blind Association
• Ensure compliance with insurance liability, risk assessments, Institute of Fundraising guidelines and general health and safety legislation at all times
• Keep accurate records and provide the CEO with reports and information requested from time to time
• Being responsible for high standards of customer care, including timely and accurate thanking of all supporters.
• Appropriate and effective use of social media
Person specification
We are looking for someone with as many of the following skills and experience as possible, although training, mentoring and ongoing support will be provided
• Relevant fundraising experience and knowledge
• Disciplined and organised and able to effectively and efficiently plan and structure fundraising activity for maximum income generation and return
• Comfortable working to targets and motivated to achieve these
• Analytical and a keen eye for detail
• Outgoing personality with good inter-personal skills and able to relate to and deal effectively with people on many different levels
• Well presented, excellent verbal and written communication and confident in public speaking to audiences such as schools, voluntary groups and potential funders / donors to the charity
• Experience of recruiting, working with and managing volunteers
• Good working knowledge of MS Office, design software and databases, including inputting and data extraction
• Use of social media in fundraising activities
A full driving licence and access to own reliable transport is essential and the post holder must be willing to travel throughout Dorset as required. The post also involves some weekend and evening working for which time off in lieu will be given.
An offer of employment will be subject to receipt of two satisfactory references and the person appointed with serve a probationary period of six months
